Walking in panic, staying angry, getting excited about a current job promotion or business opportunity, learning of an unexpected pregnancy or planned pregnancy, going through a divorce or getting married, or just dealing with life challenges. What do they all have in common? Raising of our blood pressure (hypertension) as we entered the good or bad stress zone.
It has been stated and documented that high blood pressure is the most common health problems in the Western world and within adult men and women it is the leading cause for an increase in cardiovascular risk.
High blood pressure is when the pressure in the vessels that carry your blood around in your body is higher than it should be. If left untreated, will cause damage to your blood vessels, heart, and major organs; kidney and brain. Please take the time to make and keep one’s annual checkup and get your blood pressure check frequently if you have been told that you are having some challenges with your blood pressure.
Risk factors for Hypertension: overweight, high-fat or and high cholesterol diet, tobacco use, sedentary lifestyle, stress (good or bad), race (especially African-American), family history, and age.
Signs and Symptoms: headaches, nosebleeds, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, shortness of breath, facial flushing, chest pain, and or seizures. Remember to always check with your Spiritual Physician (SP) and your Medical Physician (MP) before deciding on if you have hypertension and how to handle it. As Believers we know that all things are possible with God our Healer. Please note that if you notice you are having some symptoms, it does not necessarily mean you are a candidate for High Blood Pressure.
Treatments: There are many therapeutic ways to treat hypertension. Medical physicians recommend exercising, healthy eating plan, and any lifestyle changes that are productive and cater to helping one maintain wholistic balance (spirit, soul, and body). There are also supplements and medications available. Remember to check with your SP and MP before adding over the counter or medications to your current lifestyle.
