We allow our food choices to dictate our emotional states. We depend on certain foods to maintain our energy levels. If we need a holistic boost, we can go through Starbuck’s drive through line and get a drink which support their saying “To inspire and nurture the human spirit–one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.” If we feel like doing things our way, we can order from Burger King and endorse their slogan which transition from “Have it your way” to “Be Your Way”. If we want to feed our inner feelings some seafood, we can order from Red Lobster’s mission menu “For the Seafood Lover in You”.
It is fine to feed our physical body 10% food that cater to our comfort zone. Yes, it is ok to eat your favorite desserts, candy bars, Easter bunnies in moderation. God wants us to enjoy life as we celebrate various holidays, birthdays, and attend social events. This is possible as long as we are eating 90% healthy food, which maintain a balance between, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
This 90% nutrition intake must yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This food initiate from our spiritual food. We must eat from our faith foundation that is rooted upon biblical doctrine. Our spiritual food must be the main source of vitamin that dictate to us to operate from the fruit of the spirit: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things” (Galatians 5:22-23).
The food intake from God’s word permits us to make the right physical food choices (portions) that provide a balance meal: fruits, vegetables and meats within our weekly 90% rule. As we approach the weekend, we can eat from our 10% list without feelings of guilt and shame.
