We never enter a social conversation discussing First Aid Care for burns; however, it is an important topic.
The first aid procedures for burn care are as follows:
First-Degree Burn- this is where you feel pain in the area, skin red and swollen.
Second-Degree Burn-this is where you feel pain in the area, blistering, skin is white or red, and body fluids are leaking from the burn site.
Third-Degree Burn-You have both numbness in the burned area and severe pain in surrounding area, multicolored skin (black, white, gray, and red), and server body fluids loss.
Treatment: While praying, stop the burn, then cool down with water. Next, cover with a dry sterile dressing. Please note for chemical burns flush with water for 15-20 minutes. For first-degree and second-degree burns, activate EMS if severe conditions exist. For third-degree burns, electrical burns, and chemical burns activate EMS immediately. Please visit your physician to make sure healthcare given was acceptable and sufficient.
Food for thought.
How do we handle spiritual burns? Spiritual burns can be self-inflicted or distribute through various relationships. Self-inflicted is through self-guilt, negative thoughts, and self-defeating talk. Distribution through others are as follows: broken trust (friend, spouse committed adultery, overlooked for job promotion); gossip- we were talked about on Facebook, through email, or within our work site; jealousy-victim of others’ dislike of my appearance, faith, income or education status.
How do we care for spiritual burns? We have to admit the pain or hurt we feel. Choose to forgive. Allow ourselves time to heal. Forgive. Remember forgiven does not mean the treatment we received was right; however, forgiveness permits us to release the hurt and feelings with have to Christ and move forward in His mercy and grace.
“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy” (Micah 7:18 NIV).
