Depression: Is This a Dream Blocker?

Some days you wake up and feel emotionally drained. Does that mean you are depressed?

We all have days where things do not go on schedule. There are days where we have health challenges. The key factor in determining if depression is trying to still your joy, peace, and destiny is when your days continuously becomes an emotional and psychological battlefield.

Here are some suggestion to help you know if you maybe experiencing symptoms of  depression (note that these symptoms could be for other reasons, “prayerfully” check with your physician):

  • Continuous feelings of hopelessness.
  • Mood swings.
  • Feelings of guilt, shame, worthlessness, and helplessness.
  • Decrease energy
  • Overeating or appetite loss.
  • Thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts
  • Inability to enjoy life

Taking Control Over Depression

  • Pray without ceasing. Talk to God tell Him all about it.
  • Declare and decree God’s word.
  • Do not deny your feelings.
  • Share your feelings with a trusted friend
  • Fight isolation from believers in Christ. Stay in the church.
  • Eat healthy.
  • See your physician and seek and get the appropriate help (as you are led by the Holy Spirit)
  • Get appropriate rest.
  • Avoid alcohol and sedatives.

Remember God loves you and is with you through this challenge. Throughout the Bible great leaders fought depression: Moses, Elijah, David and Job.

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8 ESV).
