We often ponder over what a gift to give biological family members, friends, church family members, co-workers, mentors or mentees, acquaintances, neighbors, authority figures, and strangers. If we use our own limited insight, our gift choices can be based on our (at that time) emotional states, thought patterns, financial status, and our self-perceptions of the person/persons we want to bless.
Before we enter the world of gift-giving, we need to check our reasons for blessing others. Gift is defined as a freewill present given to someone with no strings attached. This means as givers we do not expect payment in any form (money, service, or spiritual).
We bless others simply because
It is good healthcare practice for our holistic wellbeing. As we willingly bless others through our time, talents, and prayers we stay energize, healthy, and walk in love. “A kind man benefits himself, But the cruel person brings trouble on himself” (Proverbs 11:17).
It is contagious. As we give, we are blessed through others investing into our well beings. The Bible reminds us that as we practice giving, people will give to us. “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38).
Let us serve others cheerfully without any personal strings attached.
