Missing loved ones, unrealistic giving and receiving expectations, financial pressures, and self-inflicted excessive commitments cause us to enter the anxiety and stress twilight zone. The holiday fun energizing and exciting festivities can end with us feeling overwhelmed, depressed, and fatigued. The social gatherings, baking, and family intimacy or lack of these things and people can leave us in a chaotic state or just plain lonely.
As we continue within the holiday season, let us not be ignorant of Satan’s devices, Holiday Stressors. Let us seek God’s guidance while we maintain Wholistic balance, spirit, soul, and body by getting plenty of rest, knowing our strengths and weaknesses, keeping our intimate time with God, engaging in me-time, spending within our household budget, and proclaiming the real reason for the season, the birth of our Lord and Savior.
Suggestive tips to incorporate within our interactions and choices during the holiday season:
1. I can’t get it all done! Know our physical, mental, and income limitation. Prioritize events and interactions in relation to time managements and dates. If possible, avoid last-minute shopping.
2. This isn’t how I thought it would be! Avoid operating from a self-expectation zone. Stay flexible and open to change when dealing with others. Stay prayed up and Word up. Keep our expectation realistic in Christ and focus on what is important. Jesus is the reason for the season.
3. Can’t stand my family! Before entering family fellowship, spend time talking to God. Pick and choose our family interactions and conversations. Remind ourselves that as children of the most High King, we are representing Him through our words, actions and deeds. God expect us to operate in love. If by chance, someone starts to raise our blood pressure, let us remind ourselves to operate from the fruit of the spirit, and not take things personally. Remember the reason for family fellowship is to share God’s love, appreciate each other’s differences, and to live each day as if it was our last. Live at the moment and be thankful and grateful for the opportunity to spend time with our loved ones during this holiday season.
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isiah 9:6).
