Being in the middle can be comfortable or suffocating. Being a middle child might mean wearing our siblings’ hand-me-downs. We have heard the expression “stuck in the middle”. This can be a bad thing, if we are in the middle of two people fist fighting, on the other hand, it can be a good thing when we are in cold weather and in need of the heat which is being provided by the two people we are sitting between. If we are considering being the middle person, we need to make sure we are still in Christ and allowing our lifestyles to glorify Christ while we are “stuck in the middle”.
If two of our friends are engaged in a heated argument, we need to prayerfully maintain a Christlike distance and not get caught up in the gossip or backbiting party. We need to be the Christlike mediator between them both and avoid being judgmental or choosing who side to be on.
If we are in the middle of work-related power struggle, maintain self-control through self-discipline and avoid offering our personal opinions.
If family members or friends are making bad decisions (we think they are). Let us not selectively become the middle person to offer them our advice.
Being in the middle of situations, circumstances, and relationships mean we interact with others knowing who we are and what we stand for as we maintain our middle positions.
“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).
