Yes, I hear you. We know this expression too well. When it is our time to respond, we need to ask ourselves, did we really hear what the person was/is saying in relation to his/her words, actions, or body language. Also, were we listening or pondering over on how we select to respond.
Listening is a skill that has various learning a lesson. First stage, elementary school, where we partial lesson due to self-focus on personal issues, just tired, or use to the person talking. Second stage, junior/high school, where we listen with the intake on helping the person solve the issue. Finally, university level (bachelor, master or doctrine), where we finally realize and accept that we are loving listening to the person express their concerns without being side tracked with a personal agenda, or trying to fix them.
