Dictionary.com defines patience as: “the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like. An ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay: to have patience with a slow learner, quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence”.
Sometimes when we think of operating in patience we get discouraged, may enter into depression zone, feel rejected, anxious, and stressful. This lifestyle choice to interpret that the patience challenge causes us to accept negativity. It drains our energy levels and result in selective negative thought patterns, fear of the unknown, and the need to have a quick fix-it or solution to our current unwanted circumstance.
As we seek godly counsel on developing, maintaining and growing through our season of patience we must pray for wisdom, direction and guidance yet not pray for endurance unless we want to run a long race during the season of contentment in patience. Going through the patience trial we must surrender our wills to God’s will, not try to figure the outcome results, we must rest assured and comprehend that this trail will test our belief, and either increase or decrease our faith. This patience season will test our endurance level, steadfastness, and wholistic healthcare (spirit, soul, and body). We must encourage ourselves by remembering that this too shall pass.
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” (Colossian 1: 9-12).
