When we open our mouth to speak do we consider:
Others are judging us by our words.
We have an opportunity to bless or curse others through our word choices.
We are creating an atmosphere of love, peace and joy.
We are creating a cloud of darkness over others through gossip.
We are entering into the territory of self-doom when we speak negative words over ourselves.
Before we speak, let remind ourselves that:
Our words have power “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18: 21 ESV).
Our words can cause corruption “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear” (Ephesian 4:29 ESV).
Our words can produce life “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 14: 12 ESV).
