Comfort foods are filled with sugar. When going through stress or feeling depress or anxious, we tend to intake huge sugar consumptions. This can be detrimental to the longevity of our healthy lifestyles. However, heavy intake of process sugar can increase our emotional state in a not so positive way.
Excessive sugar consumption results in the following:
Suppresses our bodies’ immune responses which can lead to a disease such as low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Varies our blood sugars fluctuation as follows: small fluctuation disturbs our sense of well-being and large fluctuation can cause mood swings, depression, anxiety, fatigue, and aggressive behavior.
What comfort sugars are we partaking within our spirits?
Are we engaging in the comfort sugar of poverty? This is where we overload on the process sugars of credit cards spending, or ignoring God’s warning signs of poverty by seeking self-pleasures and fulfillment in entertainment versus meditating on God’s word. God wants us to enjoy life; however, it must be done in moderation. “ There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV).
Are we engaging in too many spiritual sweets through our loss of mouth control? This is when our conversations consist of gossip, backbiting, jealousy, lies, and verbal abuse. God want us to speak the truth in love as we are led by His spirit. “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell” (James 3:6 NIV).
Let us balance our sugar intake in Christ.
