We all love instant results we get through our microwave technology. There is pros and cons to the digital information we receive through modern technology. As we engage in family time this week end, we can enjoy how we can keep in contact with family members, friends, and associates as we plan our recreational activities.
Yet, there is a dark side to technology usages. If not careful we can enter into the “Epidemic of Loneliness Zone”.
We are communicating through text, Facebook, twitter, and selfie; however, face-to-face interaction is limited. We can hide our true feelings behind emoticons. We can proclaim to be happy, cheerful, and on top of the world through our text messages, Facebook postings, and 24/7 selfie while hiding our true states of emotional intelligence (EQ). As we interact with your each other we realize that eve though we might have a high IQ our EQ is low and we wonder why our social skills are inadequate.
In order to serve others in love, we need to take the time to understand their emotional states. This week end, as we are enjoying our family time, let us try the following social awareness strategy called Watch Their Body Language.
We can do this by checking their postures, eye movements, hand gestures, and facial expressions. We will consider this as a complete reading of the person. We will call it the “head-to-toe-body language assessment”. This type of reading cannot be done through emoticons, Facebook check-ups, or selfies.
“And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Enjoy your time with loved ones.
