Before we speak it, we think it.
Most of our language is structured in the left hemisphere of the brain. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee” (Proverbs 23:7). Our thought process is very important. We know that brain damage can occur in many different parts of our brain and can have a negative effect on our speech and hearing. This can result in “Nonfluent Aphasias”. What does this fancy word mean? Nonfluent Aphasias is when the verbal output is distorted with short phrase lengths that is effortful and has disrupted prosody.
Constantly checking our thoughts is mandatory. In order to glorify God within our thought process we must:
1) Stop allowing pessimistic self-chatter to dictate our thoughts and speaking patterns.
2) Practice Christlike mindful thinking.
3) Call on Jesus before we open our mouth.
4) Monitor what we are selectively hearing, seeing, thinking and feeling against God’s word and daily plan for our lifestyles
5) After processing our thoughts ,let us ask ourselves is what we about to say: true, necessary and does it offer words of wisdom.
Finally, if by chance our thoughts lead us to speak out of aggravation, frustration, and fatigue, then we need to repent, apologize and enter into mouth lock down until led by the Holy Spirit to speak.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21).
