We vent our rage and despair by confessing our feelings. In greeting, we often say Hello, how are you doing and then the person’s response is to verbally vomit all of his or her complaints within thirty seconds.
If we are going through an emotional roller coaster, we need to vent it. The questions to ask ourselves before initiating the venting phase is:
Why am I venting? Is it because of how I was treated? Do I need to confront a person or situation or Do I just want to complain?
Whom should I vent too? First, I need to talk to God about my feelings. Next, I need to listen to God regarding my emotional state. Finally, unless the Holy Spirit informs me to share my emotional mood with another, I should vent to myself out loud if possible, but in private.
Suggestive Ways to Effectively Vent Our Emotions:
First, we should directly confront the source of our frustrations (hurt, anger, jealousy, anxiety and etc)
Second, we should discharge our negative emotions through prayer. We should restore our emotional equilibrium by proclaiming God’s word over our emotions. “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:17-18 (NIV); “He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake” Psalms 23:3 (NIV).
Third, after the venting session with God and self, we should praise God, remember who we are in Christ, and moved forward.
“Way maker. Miracle worker. Promise keeper. Light in the darkness. My God, That is who you are. Way maker. Miracle worker. Promise keeper. Light in the darkness. My God. That is who you are” (Way Maker Lyrics by Sinach).
